Apple Unveiled Its Secret Testing Labs

Last Friday, Apple held a press conference addressing antenna issues with eh iPhone 4. And at the same time, Apple unveiled its once-secret testing labs and invited 11 members of the media on a brief tour after the event.

The tour was led by Ruben Caballero with the purpose of showing that Apple takes the testing of wireless issues very seriously, and that suggestions that the company was simply sleeping on the job when it came time to test the iPhone 4 are misguided.

According to Macworld, Apple’s wireless lab has 16 different anechoic chambers padded with foam shaped into pointy cones to stop all reflections, designed to create completely radio-neutral environments—at a cost Caballero estimated at $1.2 million per chamber. (more…)

Apple Issued iOS 4.0.1

Post published on 15th July 2010

Apple issued iOS 4.0.1 on Thursday for iPhone, improving the accuracy of the handset’s signal display strength. The installer information succinctly states that iOS 4.0.1 will improve “the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display.” Apple said that iOS 4.0.1 is the only fix in the update by now.

Despite the change in height of the bars, this update is only cosmetic, and does not change the hardware issue that has drawn the ire of Apple fans and detractors alike. Apple will presumably discuss this issue in further detail at their special iPhone 4 press event, which will be held tomorrow at 10AM Pacific. Besides iOS 4.0.1, Apple also released iOS 3.2.1 for the iPad.
